All contact with the customers after the initial sale of the laser products are conducted through the office of the Technical Support Administrator. This contact included interacting with the purchasing department of the customer to finalize the purchase order details for the sale, setting up the installation of the laser, troubleshooting problems throughout ownership of the laser, scheduling and planning service visits, and processing orders for replacement parts. Other responsibilities included taking over the web page maintenance, e-mail accounts maintenance for company's corporate account, trade show preparation, making travel arrangements for engineers, creating and maintaining the customer database, maintaining the customer files, and managing the creation and updates to technical manuals.

Responsibilities included designing, planning, and analyzing major projects, maintaining computer programs for department, providing technical direction to laboratory personnel, completing departmental short-range projects, and promoting improvements by introducing appropriate technology to suppliers and vehicle groups.

Accomplishments

  • Coordinated the development of an expert system for relay failure analysis. Introduced concepts to management, built a prototype expert system, obtained project status and cost estimate from Electronic Data Systems (EDS) for an enhanced system.
  • Successfully organized a technical seminar in the measurement of light and color. Developed core outline, obtained commitments from instructors and exhibitors, arranged for facilities and attendance. Attended by over 200 GM engineers and technicians.
  • Assisted in planning department budget.
  • Acted as a liaison between the department and EDS.

Accomplishments

  • Developed programs for use in the laboratory to perform pull-in and drop-out voltage test on relays; calculate contact force, air gap, and over-travel from force-displacement curves; computerized the laboratory's report filing system.
  • Successfully fulfilled the requirements of the American Society for Quality Control to be recognized as a Certified Quality Engineer in Training.

Community Leader, VirtuaLeader Academy

The VirtuaLeader Academy was a group of 50 dedicated individuals that volunteered many hours a week to the online education of AOL internal employees and the remote community leaders. The VLA Cadre, who spent time developing virtual courses, teaching the 'cadets' who walked the virtual-halls, and countless hours answering the questions of the students, were also seen as the 'cream of the crop' of the AOL volunteer staff force.

 
  • Team Leader for the New Message Board Tutorial Team. Responsibilities included managing a team of volunteers, teaching, updating course materials as needed, managing student files, collaborating with colleagues on how to best serve other remote staff, answering members' questions (both in e-mail and in Instant Messages) regarding class material and other general AOL and VLA topics.
  • Designed a self-paced online tutorial for the creation and maintenance of LISTSERV electronic mailing lists. Sole writer and RAINMAN coder for the development of the tutorial.
  • RAINMAN Coder. Assisted other teams in the VLA with RAINMAN coding projects. "RAINMAN" is the scripting language used by AOL for the programming of the AOL screens.
